Like a desire to bask in the sun

The beginning of the story

Bask in the Sun finds its origins in Guéthary, by the sea. The brand imagines designs reminiscent of the marine world, while bringing a modern and colorful touch to its wardrobe. "Bask in the Sun" is both an ode to good times but also a nod to the brand's geographical origin, the Basque coast.

It all began in 2013 when Tito Clémente, from a family dedicated to traditional Basque linen, decided to use the know-how he inherited and combine it with his own inspirations. At the beginning, his project was to create a t-shirt as a blank support on which the artists he liked could express themselves. The project then started and he decided with his partners to propose a more complete wardrobe, where we find t-shirts with prints and more classic collections. The Bask in the Sun adventure is then launched.

Designs for all tastes

The brand defines itself as a cabinet of curiosity where you can discover the graphics, photographs or sculptures of talented artists from around the world. Bask in the Sun constantly finds new artists, with whom it sometimes develops a heart affinity, some artists are then regularly found in their collections.

One of their most faithful artists is Daniela Garreton. This Chilean-born painter creates most of the brand's marine prints. She brings a fresher look to the character of the sailor: often portrayed as a rough-featured, gruff-looking, big-armed sailor, Daniel Garreton moves away from that conception here to make him a soothed sailor, eyes closed, as calm as the ocean.

Artist Sean Lee also got to express his art on Bask in the Sun T-shirts. The Singaporean-born photographer makes his living shooting classic portraits of bank employees. At the same time, the artist has fun doing personal work in black and white, more crazy. He is inspired by his family, whom he likes to take pictures of. One of his works is a portrait of his mother, holding two fish in front of her eyes, hiding her gaze. This photograph eventually found its way onto Bask in the Sun t-shirts, which didn't fail to amuse the artist's mother!

The brand's artist partners bring a singular personality to each t-shirt, and everyone will find a favorite design in this wardrobe. As for the brand's basics, they perfectly combine the maritime universe with the workwear style and invite us to dream of vacations on the Basque coast.

Eco-design as a keyword

The brand's anchor point (no pun intended) is the marine universe. The beauty of the oceans is a true well of artistic inspiration but also a pillar in its ethical and eco-responsible commitment.

When you live near the ocean, you see how beautiful this environment is and you want to do everything possible to limit its pollution.

It also wants to offer an ethical wardrobe, where all stakeholders are respected and whose work is valued.

Trusted partners

Bask in the Sun ensures an entirely local production, in the north of Portugal, only 800 km from Guéthary, the brand's headquarters.

As for the sourcing of materials, the vast majority of them come from European countries. Wool yarns come from Italy, jersey and fleece from Portugal.

The brand maintains relationships of trust with its suppliers and service providers, whom it is committed to paying their fair value. Unlike fast fashion, Bask in the Sun does not pressurize its partners and wants to give them the utmost respect.

The love of materials

Organic, natural, certified materials... The Basque brand is always looking for ways to improve the composition of its pieces. The majority of its cotton wardrobe is made of GOTS (Organic Textile Certification) certified organic cotton, up to about 90%. She also ventures into less conventional natural materials such as linen or tencel, both of which have a high ecological value since they require much less water than cotton for their cultivation and manufacturing.

Its wool is Woolmark certified, an international label guaranteeing exemplary wool quality and durability. This prestigious label offers Bask in the Sun garments a superior quality: the wool does not pilling and is very pleasant to the touch. This label also certifies that the products have been tested in a laboratory to ensure that they will not deteriorate after wear, washing and dyeing. This is then a guarantee of quality and durability, which reinforces the longevity of its pieces.

Finally, the dyeing of its garments is OEKO-TEX certified, a label certifying that no chemicals harmful to either humans or the environment have been used.

Bask in the Sun combines durability and style, quality and modernity. The care it takes with its materials and the responsibility it undertakes in its design process make it a benchmark ECO X CEPTION brand.
