The handle of the Atelier collection is the result of the creativity and know-how of our cabinetmakers and combines walnut and ebony. This novelty is in line with Opinel's approach to use as much European wood as possible and to optimize wood consumption by reinterpreting the scraps from the manufacture of handles.
The Tradition N°08 Atelier knives have a handle made of walnut from French forests with a heel made of African ebony, these two species are separated by a maple leaf. Each handle is bufflé by hand. The blades are modified stainless steel, finition ground-polished.

About Opinel
It was in 1890 that the history of the Opinel knives began. At that time, Joseph Opinel worked in the family workshop. Passionate about new techniques and machines, he perfected his project to create a knife with a modern design. This is how Opinel is created.
It is a worldwide success that the Savoyard brand will know by winning the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Turin in 1911. The brand continues its development and opens its factory in Chambéry, historic city for the brand that still has its head office today.
The emblem of the brand is a hand crowned to remind that the Savoy is a duchy and the blessing hand is that of Saint Jean-Baptiste, appearing on the coat of arms of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, the nearest town of Albiez-le-Vieux, cradle of the Opinel family.
Recognizable with its blade, its distinctive handle, its rivet and its fixed ferrule, the Opinel knife adopts an elegant design with its fine and clean lines, fruit of a traditional know-how.
