This is a great first for L'Exception: we have calculated our carbon footprint for the year 2021! L'Exception worked hand in hand with the Carbo platform in order to achieve the most complete and representative footprint possible.
Engaged in an eco-responsibility approach since its creation, it was important for L'Exception to calculate its carbon footprint in order to implement a concrete action plan to reduce its emissions. This work with Carbo has allowed us to identify the biggest emission items, and to determine the concrete actions allowing us to reduce their impact. How do we measure our footprint?



L'Exception decided to calculate a carbon footprint encompassing all of its activities, i.e., its own but also those of its partner brands.
Carbon footprints calculate emissions according to "scopes", well-defined perimeters of activities.- Scope 1: direct greenhouse gas emissions
- Scope 2: indirect greenhouse gas emissions (for example, emissions related to the electricity consumed in L'Exception's offices)
- Scope 3: all other indirect emissions (e.g., transportation of goods, production of clothing, waste management... The activity of our partner brands is found here)

What results?



It is essential to take into account the globality of activities since emissions related to purchases and supports (i.e., those related to the activity of our partner brands and contained in scope 3) constitute 90 u balance sheet for L'Exception. More specifically, among purchases, it is the processed raw materials that emit almost all of these emissions.

How do we improve?



L'Exception now knows where it needs to take priority action to reduce the impact of its balance sheet. It is currently working alongside Carbo to create a customized emissions reduction action plan. But what is certain is that we will need to act in concert with our partners on a variety of issues:

- Reducing emissions related to the transportation of goods
- Working to offer products whose materials are less polluting (organic cotton vs. polyester, for example)
- Engaging in manufacturing processes that are more respectful of resources and consume less energy (looking for a logic of eco-design)

For that, we will need to be able to exchange more and more with our partners, which represents a real challenge since we offer and work with more than 500 brands from France and abroad. L'Exception aims to focus its offer on products that are more environmentally friendly, which is why it favors a selection of committed brands.

Steps already taken by L'Exception



Waiting for the implementation of an action plan alongside Carbo, L'Exception has already launched several projects that are part of an eco-responsibility research.

The ECO X CEPTION label

You may be familiar with the Smart Choice label, which highlighted products that met certain eco-responsibility and ethical criteria. L'Exception has reset its criteria with the new ECO X CEPTION label. This mention now includes more criteria, and if 75 items that we reference from a brand are ECO X CEPTION, then this brand becomes ECO X CEPTION on our site. It is then visible as such on the site, which gives it a special appeal.

We have at heart to work with brands Made in Europe, Made in France, and proposing more eco-responsible clothes (organic cotton, linen, recycled or upcycled materials...).

Preferring short circuits

L'Exception organizes its support functions in France, around short circuits. The offices of L'Exception are grouped with the boutique, at the Caserne, which is the incubator of eco-responsible fashion brands in the 10th district of Paris. For its warehouse, L'Exception chose a family business located in Haute-Marne, 3.5 hours from Paris.

Digital privacy

L'Exception's computer servers are hosted in France, allowing for short data distances, whose impact is not negligible. The company has set itself the goal of concentrating data on a maximum of three servers. To do this, it works on continuous code rectifications and regular arbitrations (optimization and compression of images, reduction of the number of calls on the servers ...)

L'Exception has as a partner the startup Quanta, specializing in the analysis of website performance. It awards a score of 7/8 to L'Exception on its digital sobriety score.

Responsible packaging

L'Exception is taking action to reduce its cardboard consumption by implementing new fully compostable packaging. This packaging is now used on 30 th our shipments.

Partnership with Reforest'Action

L'Exception offers its customers to make a donation of 1€ to the association Reforest'Action to participate in the planting of a tree. To date, 21675 trees have already been planted through this partnership.
