About Pataugas
Created in 1950 by René Elissabide, Pataugas laid the foundations for a new approach to shoe design. From the brodequin, a traditional canvas shoe from the Basque Country, the entrepreneur vulcanizes a thick rubber sole heated with a gas stove, hence the name Pataugas.
Passionate about the mountains, René Elissabide thus invented a soft canvas shoe with a rising upper, extremely robust and comfortable for walking and hiking.
His manufacturing process ensures a durable assembly of the upper and sole, resulting in a lightweight, flexible and durable shoe. It offers optimal comfort and protection.
With its success, the vulcanized rubber sole boots will be adopted by all, from the French army to the former President of the Republic François Mitterrand through Jean Paul Gaultier or Agnès B.
Each model is designed for daily use, from the city to the countryside. Our materials are selected for their quality and environmental impact. The leather comes from the food industry, from European tanneries, for a production that is energy efficient, responsible and respectful of the European Union's regulatory standards. Pataugas' eco-responsible approach extends to the development of a range of vegetable-tanned leather and recycled cotton.
