It is possible that a stain will force you to wash your scarf. We strongly recommend washing it by hand.
Here are the 5 steps to follow for a successful hand wash.
1. Choose a clean container • sink, basin or other • and fill it with warm water.
2. Use a special soft wool detergent or Marseille soap to lather it up.
3. Dip your scarf into the soapy water and leave it to soak for 10 to 15 minutes, depending on its condition. Shake the water gently from time to time. Gently scrub any stains with Marseille soap.
4. Empty your container and rinse your scarf with warm water. Do not wring out your scarf and do not put it in the dryer: just press it into a ball gently to let most of the water drain out.
5. Finally, dry it flat.
Wear it again!
• Machine washing.
If you absolutely must wash your scarf in the machine and it has already proved its worth: use a "hand wash" cycle or the gentlest possible one with the spin cycle at 600 rpm maximum. As usual, separate light and dark colours and do not use bleach or fabric softeners. To dry: do not use a tumble dryer, just dry your scarf flat. Merino wool is an incredible natural fibre with many properties: to preserve them, you must take care of them.

Fabric softener does not deteriorate the scarf but it does reduce the wool's natural ability to breathe and regulate your temperature, so we strongly advise against it. Bleach should not be used: it literally destroys merino wool.
