On the occasion of the release of their new album "Le soleil et la mer" we met Adele and Nico known as Bibi Club, the duo straight from Quebec.

What's the story behind Bibi Club?
We met while participating in different projects on the Montreal scene, including Nico's other band (Plants and Animals). On tour, we would play stuff, compositions, ideas to each other. We started working together in the studio on a first EP, and it was fluid, simple and inspiring.

The album opens with "Le Balcon", a rather soft song full of spleen, then the rhythm accelerates with La nuit and its electronic beat, we then follow with a dynamic song with guitar (Parasite, my favorite), in 3 songs, we go from one universe to another, this permanent change of style is rather surprising, how would you describe your music?
We describe our music as living room party music. Music that we would play in our living room, at a party with friends, kids, where everyone is dancing and having fun together. A music that wants to be authentic, intuitive, that feels good while expressing a vulnerability and a certain tension.

Surprising to release an album entitled The sun and the sea at the entrance of winter, why this choice?
For us, The sun and the sea is not a place, but it represents the magical everyday. The beauty that is in front of us, that we all have been around during the different confinements.

I don't know which to choose, is Bibi Club's music to dance to or to listen to while singing under a plaid with a hot chocolate?
It can be listened to any way you want, in a park while dancing, with friends, on your bed in a moment of nostalgia.

You have chosen to sing in French mainly, what is the reason ?
Montreal is a bilingual city, we write the lyrics in the language that makes the most sense for the song.

What is specific to the Montreal scene?
The diversity of languages, the scene has a lot of small communities that support and encourage each other.

How has the Bibi Club sound been received in France?
We feel good in France. The welcome is warm. Les Inrocks invited us for an event at La boule noire last May and our sound seems to have piqued the curiosity of the public. We made a lot of enriching meetings.

Your next dates in France ?
December 6 at Point Éphémère in Paris as part of the Bars en bars event. December 10 at La place in Rennes for Bar en trans and probably spring 2023, we hope.
